The Mammoth tusk from Pavlov

19 October, 20 October, 25 October, 26 October, 27 October and 28 October (always from 9:00 to 16:00, last entrance to the exposition 30 minutes before the end of opening hours)

For the third time, it will be possible to see an original artifact of mammoth hunters in the Archeopark Pavlov. It will be the famous mammoth tusk from the archaeological site Pavlov I. The tusk was found in 1962. The smoothed apex of the mammoth tusk is covered with an engraved complex geometric ornament which, in the interpretation of Bohuslav Klíma, represents a schematic map of the Pavlov Hills. It is the oldest known graphic depiction of space - a depiction of the hunting landscape, where the valleys of the meandering Dyje River and the slopes of Pálava are reduced to abstract patterns and symbols with a particular metaphorical meaning understandable for groups of hunter-gatherers of their time. So this engraving is interpreted as probably the oldest map in the world.

The exhibition will be open only on these dates - 19 October, 20 October, 25 October, 26 October, 27 October and 28 October (always from 9:00 to 16:00, last entrance to the exposition 30 minutes before the end of opening hours). The opening ceremony of the exhibition will take place as part of the International Archaeology Day on 19 October at 11:00.

The exhibition will be created in cooperation with the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Brno and the Regional museum in Mikulov.
